Issue Community Economic Development Poverty is generally considered the most serious problem on Earth, because it is the root of so many other problems. Vast amounts of development aid have been expended in the fight against world poverty, with generally mediocre or unsustainable results. GSDConsultants believes that small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) -- the backbone of established markets -- are the key to poverty reduction and sustainable economic development in emerging markets. GSDConsultants offers two consulting services created to stimulate the growth of community-based businesses. Community Resources, Goods and Services Audits GSDConsultants works with community private and public stakeholders to conduct community and marketplace resource, goods and services audits, the goal of which is to identify new business development opportunities in at least five areas: • Local production of goods • Cooperative purchasing • Local business to business joint ventures • Local business and NGO development cooperation • Local industrial ecology • Corporate social responsibility From Micro-enterprise to Small Business Solutions GSDConsultants has studied numerous business and business development models in an effort to either find or create businesses and business development strategies best suited for conditions in most developing countries, including, but not limited to poor utilities infrastructure, limited technical support, very limited financial resources and a large unskilled and/or under-educated population. The first of such highly replicable, community-based businesses is optionsforlife. |
